Adolescence compresses a great deal into a few years: grades that suddenly count, friendships that shift without warning, questions about identity, a phone that never turns off, and conflict at home that both sides usually want to end. Some teens say all of that in the first ten minutes. Others need a few sessions before they decide the hour belongs to them, and that is a normal way to start.

Joselyn Vasquez, LISW-S, completed her graduate training at Case Western Reserve University with a focus on children, youth, and families, and has practiced since 2003. With teens she uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a Solution-Focused approach — concrete, collaborative, and organized around what the teen actually wants to be different, not only what the adults want fixed. She works with clients ages 7 and above, in English and Spanish.

Parents are part of the work without being in every session. Some teens do best one-on-one, some situations call for the family in the room, and many land on a mix that shifts over time. The first conversation is about understanding the situation from more than one angle and agreeing on a plan the household can work with, including how privacy is handled, which is talked through openly with both the teen and the parents at the start.

Sessions with Florida teens are held by secure video, which solves a scheduling problem that is otherwise very real. Nobody has to leave work early to drive from Oviedo or Lake Nona and back again at five o'clock, and a missed appointment stops being a traffic decision. The practice keeps hours Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 9:00pm Eastern, so after-school, evening, and Saturday appointments are realistic around practice, rehearsal, a job, or a younger sibling's schedule. Flexible hours may be offered on request for teletherapy.

Meeting from home works best when the setup is agreed on in advance: a room with a door, headphones, and a shared understanding that the hour is not overheard from the hallway. A teen who knows the conversation is genuinely theirs tends to use it. If the house is busy, a parked car in the driveway is a common and workable answer.
